In early October, a group of 27 volunteers will aim to complete the gruelling Inca Trail in Peru to the lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu, high in the peruvian andes. The trek starts in Cusco, the ancient Incan city and involves crossing three mountain passes up to 13,800ft to reach the final destination, over 50 miles away. The terrain is a mixture of rocky paths, steep ancient stone staircases and high altitude ascents combined with raging rivers, cloud forests and desolate mountain ridges. This is an arduous trek without luxuries such as sprung mattresses and flushing toilets. Our nights will be spent in tents and our supplies carried with us. Each Trekker will have a minimum fundraising target of over £3000 to support the work of St. Giles hospice, which for 25 years has supported many thousands of families in South Staffordshire and further afield. All have their own reasons for completing the trek and the funds raised will hopefully give a large boost to the future work of the hospice. Follow the links above to see who some of the Trekkers are, the challenge in more detail and the many fundraising activities we have planned before the Trek.
